But which one should I choose?
All the churches filled with losers --
psycho or confused.
I just want to hold the divine
in mind.
And forget
How all the beauty's wasted.
When I worked for UR back in 2004, I wrote an article about Of Montreal (in anticipation of Satanic Panic in the Attic) for which I was lucky enough to get Kevin Barnes on the phone for half an hour. At one point, he told me that it hurt his feelings sometimes to see his music characterized as "childlike" simply because it was poppy. He said something to the effect that he put a tremendous amount of meticulous detail and effort into his music, and that he hoped some of his listeners would take the time to delve into the music and dissect its complexities.
I've remembered that sentiment frequently while listening to Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?. It invites that close listening more than any previous Of Montreal album. On it's surface, it's almost maniacally cheerful. But underlying the bright vocal harmonies and synthesized bass lines is a complex psychology. I feel deeply involved in this album every time I listen to it -- as if it demands my full attention.
Even if you think Of Montreal is a little annoying (and I'll admit that KB's chipmunk falsetto is not exactly melodious) I'd recommend you listen to this album for the funny and insightful lyrics alone. I'll leave you with some of my favorites:
Bitches, bitches, physics makes us all its bitches.
Are you far too depressed now to even pick up the phone?
I guess you just want to
shave your head, have a drink and be left alone.
There's the girl that left me bitter.
I want to pay some other girl to just walk up to her and hit her.
But I can't.

However, I've finally edited the photos from my trip to South Carolina last week (to visit the home of my sometimes roommate and confident Benjamin). Look how my calves are no longer frightening! Something good has come from city life after all!

Listening to "Rhapsody in Blue" over a 3.6-kHz connection and thinking about ways to off herself.

I'm sure there was a fantastic, if slightly fuzzy, time in my life when I only went to the store to purchase beer and loo roll.
Smashie and Nicey are DJs and are aged 68 and 69 respectively at 5 April 2007...
I'd beg for death, but it wouldn't make any difference. I'm quite sure that whatever is waiting for me on the other side is at least as bad as Taxation. Not nearly as ludicrious, though. The question above goes on to claim that both geriatric DJs have yearly earnings of £50,000. Utter rubbish!

Things I have been doing:
1) Skipping church to walk around Union Square
2) Apple picking with Benjamin, Patricia, Natasha, and Brian
3) Watching/Crying at "the Darjeeling Limited" in some glitzy Lincoln Square theatre
4) Eating sandwiches on a blanket in Williamsburg while watching hipsters play kick ball
5) (a month ago) Traveling up to Boston for Bonnie's bridal shower, staying with Flynn
I've got photos! I will not abandon you!
Oh, and Britney lost her kids. I'm totally convinced she's bipolar
